Overview
The Wardens keep the harbour for the Harbour Council. They wear long grey coats with a silver hook stitched on the collar, and they hang thieves from the Gull Gate on the first day of every month.

Background
By the common account repeated by Old Bettany, the Council founded the Wardens about two hundred years ago, after the Drowning, to keep the harbour. Yet a lantern-man's pole bearing their silver hook lies in Ilith, which sank three hundred years ago.
History
Episode 1 The Brass Thief
One of their captains, Varr Dane, was robbed of the Brass compass; the harbour was closed hours early. An unsigned letter warned not to let the Wardens take the compass south.
Episode 2 The Salt Barge
A Warden cutter under Varr Dane intercepted the Patience and was wrecked by Seren of Esk's tidecalling. Afterwards Mira Osk saw the Wardens' silver hook pinned inside the collar of the barge's deckhand, Pell.
Episode 3 What the Water Keeps
In drowned Ilith, Mira found a lantern-man's pole with the Wardens' silver hook worked into the handle, beside a second compass. The Wardens were to hang Tobin Reed at the Gull Gate in six days.
